Why Spanish?
  • Spanish has as many as 330 million speakers worldwide, making it the second
    most important of the world's languages and the third most spoken.

  • Spanish is the most common first language in the Americas, and Spanish speakers
    also can be found in Spain, in much of the United States, the Philippines, and even
    Africa.

  • Hispanics are projected to become the States' largest minority by 2010 (according to
    Woodes and Poole Economics).

  • About 5.8 percent of the people who use the Internet speak Spanish, making it the
    No. 4 language in the Internet community

  • The countries and regions where Spanish is spoken offer destinations and activities
    for every type of traveling interest.

  • Being bilingual increases one’s market value. Currently, Spanish is needed for
    fields such as marketing and sales, medicine, law enforcement, education, social
    work and social justice among others.  

  • Spanish is easy. About 60% of English comes from Latin so both languages have
    much of their vocabulary in common. Written Spanish is almost completely phonetic:
    Look at almost any Spanish word and you can tell how it is pronounced. The
    grammar is pretty straight forward and not very different from English grammar at all.

  • Being the third largest city in the US, Chicago is quite diverse and offers a variety of
    opportunities to be exposed to the Spanish language, people who speak it and their
    culture.
